Negative Head Shower Pumps
Negative head shower pumps are designed for situations where there is poor or no natural flow of water to the shower, such as when the shower outlet is at the same level or higher than the cold water tank. These pumps create a negative vacuum which draws water from the tank and pushes it towards the shower.
Key characteristics of negative head pumps:
- They incorporate a flow switch that enables them to start automatically when water begins to flow
- They work by drawing water from the tank to the shower, making them ideal for loft conversions or when the shower head is above the zero head level (600mm below the water tank)
- They usually have a pressure vessel which acts as a buffer to prevent false activation
- They are activated by a drop in pressure when the shower is turned on and run on for a short time to re-pressurise the pipework when the shower is turned off
Negative head pumps are the best choice when the shower outlet is at the same level or higher than the water tank, as they can create a flow where there is normally insufficient natural pressure.
